Traveling with kids is a great way to expose them to new cultures while having fun along the way.
There’s no shortage of kid-friendly activities in Malaga. As one of the most vibrant cities along Spain’s southern coast, it’s full of fun for the whole family. Here are just six of our favorite kid-friendly activities in Malaga that will give them vacation memories to last a lifetime—and make them want to come back!
In Malaga’s city center:
1. Visit the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle
Walk through history at the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro Castle, two ancient structures within the same complex that will make the past come alive. The Alcazaba fortress dates from the eighth century C.E., and while it’s older than its more famous cousins—the Alcazar in Seville and the Alhambra in Granada—it’s the best preserved Moorish fortress palace in Spain.
After visiting the Alcazaba, head up to Gibralfaro Castle. As you keep making your way upwards, you can enjoy stunning views of the city, sea and surrounding mountains from the top. For families with tired kids, there’s also a bus that goes up to the castle.
2. Get to know Malaga with a different kind of tour
Make sightseeing fun! Kids will love exploring Malaga in a unique way on a Segway tour. Another enjoyable option is a bike tour, which is sure to be fun for the whole family. If you’ve already worked up an appetite on your trip, try a food tour—our Foodie Feast & Cultural Walking Tour is perfect for families!
3. Learn something new at Malaga’s museums
Malaga has several museums that will capture any child’s attention. Marvel at the classic cars at the Museo Automovilístico or enjoy the fun interactive exhibits at the Principia Centro de Ciencias. And of course, get to know one of the most famous malagueños and his art at the Picasso Museum.
4. Head to the coast for a well-deserved break
Looking to relax? You’ll feel on top of the world as you ride Malaga’s gigantic Ferris wheel, and kids will have a blast. And of course, there’s always the beach! Whether you stay close to the heart of the city at La Malagueta or prefer to escape the tourist crowds at local favorite Playa de la Misericordia, heading to the beach as a family is one of the simplest and most fun kid-friendly activities in Malaga.
Outside the city:
5. Visit a water park
Water parks are one of the best-loved, kid-friendly activities in Malaga—and just about everywhere. While the city itself does not have a water park, there are a few which are easily accessible in nearby towns.
Aquamijas (Autovía A7, Km. 209) in the town of Mijas features winding waterslides, a wave pool and even a Jacuzzi for adults to relax! There’s also Aqualand (Calle Cuba, 10) in Torremolinos, which is easy to reach by the Cercanías train from the city center. Younger children will have a blast in the Kidzworld area, while older kids can get an adrenaline rush on one of the park’s dozen waterslides.
